Willow and Devin Wynne. The terrified dog, snapping at people, emaciated, neglected…into the most regal, sweet girl. Willow passed away a few years ago, at 11 1/2, having beaten the albino life expectency of 7-9 years. We know why…she was deeply loved and cared for.
About Us
The Whispering Willow Dog Rescue is located in North Ft. Worth. We are a federally recognized charitable organization, 501C3, and are incorporated in Texas. Our focus is on saving dogs from “death row” and working with the community to reduce the number of dogs who end up in the shelters, unwanted, alone and afraid. We specialize in finding dogs with high potential for service work, and pairing them with those in need of such a dog and unable to find or afford one. Additionally, we love hospice care and behavioral modification rescues.
Our name is a tribute to our very first rescue dog, Willow. Willow was on death row in Virginia, labeled unadoptable due to albinism and fearful behaviors having been severely abused and thrown away on a highway. A team of two women, once very prominent in showing dogs, had started a rescue targeting dogs on death row that no one wants. We adopted Willow and through a year of rehabilitation turned her from afraid and aggressive into a loving, sweet girl who was an elegant princess and nanny to our dog pack. She had an affinity for younger dogs, caring for them like her babies, and well into adulthood scolding them for breaking the rules, like getting on the counter. Willow taught us that there is hope, even for a dog that was so severely mistreated….they can come back with the right love and training. And those two women taught us that there was this need and a greater cause…save those that have been forgotten.
